The NFL is a 24/7 business. There's an offseason built into the league's calendar, of course, but the news cycle never seems to stop, and fan interest remains high all year. In that light, ESPN presents "NFL Insiders," a weekday program that not only airs both in-season as well as when the stadiums are dark, but also is unique in that its cast includes nary an ex-NFL player. Hosted on a rotating basis by Suzy Kolber and Wendi Nix, the hourlong episodes feature daily contributors, such as reporters Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter and former NFL executive Bill Polian, who have insiders' access to breaking league news and firsthand knowledge of how teams go about their business. ESPN.com senior writer John Clayton and NFL insider Ed Werder also weigh in at times with news and views, as do a roster of other journalists and former front office executives.
During the NFL season, Mondays are a day for basking in your team's win or overreacting to Sunday's disappointment. With "NFL Rewind," host Trey Wingo makes Monday afternoon the time to review Sunday's games with fun, engaging commentary. Wingo is joined by former player Tim Hasselbeck and former NFL head coach John Fox as they recap Sunday's NFL action with highlights and in-depth analysis.
This Sunday pregame staple debuted in 1985 and soon became a signature ESPN series. Host Samantha Ponder introduces the features and directs the storylines associated with the day's games, joined by a roster of analysts highlighted by ex-NFL players, coaches and executives including Tedy Bruschi, Randy Moss, Matt Hasselbeck, Rex Ryan and Louis Riddick. Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter deliver breaking news and injury updates, while reporters at game sites set the scenes.
Host Suzy Kolber previews the Monday Night Football matchup airing later on ESPN. Kolber is joined by, among others, former NFL stars Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss and Steve Young to analyze every last morsel of information pertaining to Monday night's combatants, plus discuss the latest news that developed out of Sunday's action. Also contributing are NFL information men Adam Schefter and Louis Riddick.
The Emmy-winning "Inside the NFL" series has been going strong for well over 30 years, even after moving from HBO to Showtime before the 2008 NFL season. The cast may change every few years, with various hosts and analysts offering their take on football action, but the content has remained fairly consistent since its 1977 debut. In-depth highlights of that week's games, feature segments, and predictions are still the core of the show airing weekly during the NFL season and through the postseason. In 2014 wide receiver Brandon Marshall became an analyst, the first active player to serve in the role in the program's history.
An NFL Films production, "NFL Matchup" is definitely a show for football junkies. Unlike traditional football preview programs, this one gives fans an in-depth look at some of Sunday's games by breaking down the strategy and tactics -- the Xs and Os -- through the exclusive use of team-supplied footage. That type of film study is a forte of former NFL player and executive Louis Riddick and NFL Films producer Greg Cosell, whose work is featured here alongside host Sal Paolantonio.
