"It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)," sang R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, and it's a proclamation that must resonate with the people profiled in this series. That's because they are all preparing for doomsday, whether it's caused by a natural disaster, a financial collapse or a nuclear winter, and their plan is to outlast and outlive any apocalyptic scenario. The series goes inside America's "prepping" subculture and introduces otherwise ordinary folks who are stockpiling food, water, weapons and whatever else they think is necessary in the event basic services should falter and society turns chaotic and violent. Also, each prepper's plan is reviewed by the consulting firm Practical Preppers, which analyzes its potential effectiveness in case the prepper's worst fears become reality.

Surviving in the wild is not an exact science. Beyond the basics of finding water, food, shelter and eventually help, opinions vary. Two experts tell how they think it's done in this series, as initial episodes feature trained survivalists Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin demonstrating the skills and creative thinking that can help one cope in tough surroundings. Equipped with minimal gear, the pair are left in remote locations -- an uninhabited island off Nova Scotia, a New Zealand mountaintop, deep in the Everglades, the jungle of Thailand, and the desert of Baja California, to name a few -- where they battle the elements and sometimes each other. Season 3 introduces U.S. Special Ops veteran Joseph Teti to replace Canterbury, in the middle of Season 4 primitive survivalist Matt Graham of Discovery's "Dude, You're Screwed" replaces Lundin, and partway through Season 5 producers forge new partnerships by rotating survival experts as hosts.

Paul Teutul and his son Paul Jr. create some of the world's most original custom motorcycles -- Paul Sr. operates Orange County Choppers, and Junior leads his staff at Paul Jr. Designs. Both shops are located a stone's throw from each other in Orange County, N.Y., but sometimes it seems as if father and son are worlds apart. They were business partners at OCC until a family feud that included a lawsuit led to their separation, both personally and professionally. This reality series follows the hot-headed Teutuls as they strive to remain on speaking terms while their shops compete to outdo each other in the designing and building of custom bikes.

A seasoned adventurer and survivalist deliberately "strands" himself in remote locales and makes his way back to civilization to provide in-depth advice for travelers who may find themselves lost on what was expected to be a routine hike or other trip.
Leslie Knope, a midlevel bureaucrat in an Indiana Parks and Recreation Department, hopes to beautify her town (and boost her own career) by helping local nurse Ann Perkins turn an abandoned construction site into a community park, but what should be a fairly simple project is stymied at every turn by oafish bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, governmental red tape and a myriad of other challenges. Leslie's colleague Tom Haverford, who delights in exploiting his position for personal gain, is as likely to undermine her efforts as to help her, while her boss, Ron Swanson, is adamantly opposed to government in any form, even though he's a bureaucrat himself.
