The inner workings of a large U.S. airport, especially considering increased security measures implemented post-9/11, are prime fodder for a reality series. This Travel Channel entry presents an around-the-clock pass to one of the country's largest airports, Miami International. Its staff is charged with getting approximately 100,000 passengers through the airport safely each day, a stressful task because MIA is a prime target for terrorist threats. It is also a frequent point of entry for illegal drugs, and viewers see the ways in which smugglers attempt to disguise containers. The series concentrates on the work done by a cross-section of airport employees, among them security director Lauren Stover, operations agent Heidi Anthony and police officer Chris Rutledge.

Following the colorful personalities who make a living buying items at auctions is a favorite subject of TV producers. "Baggage Battles," essentially a replica of A&E Network's "Storage Wars" minus the storage units, depicts the process of "auction specialists" bidding for, buying and reselling property found in unclaimed luggage. It features three teams of bidders: Laurence and Sally Martin, who have appeared on "Storage Wars" appraising items in their California antiques store; young entrepreneur Mark Meyer, who owns a Long Island, N.Y., thrift store; and Billy Leroy, the proprietor of Billy's Antiques and Props, a famous eclectic prop and antique store in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan.

The fact that Kevin Michael Connolly was born without legs doesn't stop him from pursuing his passions, among them skateboarding, mountain climbing and skiing. And he does all of this without the aid of a wheelchair or prosthetics. "Armed & Ready" is a shout-out of sorts to Connolly and his thirst for thrills, and the half-hour series is also a showcase for the inventions he devises that help him push the limits of his world. The rigs include a turkey-roasting pan for wakeboarding, a modified saddle with extra straps for horse jousting, and an airline-grade seatbelt and hand brake for street luging. Engineers and scientists aid in the creative process, and then Connolly attempts such adventures as traversing river rapids, climbing 50-foot trees with lumberjacks, cliff-diving headfirst into the Pacific Ocean, and surfing in Hawaii.
