Before getting into cable news, Nicolle Wallace worked in politics, including as President George W. Bush's communications director during his administration and for his 2004 re-election campaign. That experience makes her an ideal choice to host this afternoon program that delivers up-to-the-minute political developments to viewers. She also leads conversations with Washington insiders and well-sourced journalists, including regular contributor Steve Kornacki. Each show's guests are "the people who make the most sense on any given day," according to Wallace.
After airing several different programs in this time slot in recent years, CNN attempts to solidify its prime-time schedule by moving Chris Cuomo to the toughest hour in cable news. Cuomo, the former co-anchor of CNN's morning show "New Day," eschews panel discussions in favor of in-depth one-on-one interviews that test politicians and newsmakers on their positions. He also analyzes the news of the day and presents breaking news. Described by one publication as "America's toughest news anchor," Cuomo wants his show to be known as one that debates with decency. "The need is clear," he says. "Hopefully we help fill it."
"Face the Nation," which is one of the longest-running news programs on the air, offers insight and analysis on the top issues of the day. Moderator Margaret Brennan welcomes politicians, government leaders and international newsmakers to a roundtable discussion of current events with CBS News correspondents.
Hosted by Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist, the program features in-depth and informed discussions that help drive the day's current political conversation. The show attracts a wide variety of guests, including top newsmakers, Washington insiders, journalists, and cultural influencers, representing a diverse set of voices and opinions that provide keen insight and analysis around the day's biggest stories. Since its debut in 2007, the show has also covered major political events from the heart of the action, including presidential conventions and inaugurations.
Hosted by CNN's chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper, "State of the Union" features one-on-one interviews with top newsmakers on politics and policy. Often joined by a round table of expert guests, the Sunday morning program covers Washington, the country, and the world, and goes beyond the Beltway for a perspective on how everyday Americans are faring.
