In each episode of "Penn & Teller Tell a Lie," the comedy-magic duo makes several (up to seven) outrageous claims, such as a butter knife can stop a speeding bullet, that are supported by scientific evidence -- most of which are, surprisingly, true. But one of the claims is a lie. And it's up to the viewers, in an interactive format, to determine which of the duo's stories is false. Viewers are prompted throughout the show to utilize the show's online and mobile apps to cast their votes and at the end of each episode, the live results of the home audience's vote are revealed.
Actor Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman") hosts this mystifying series featuring escape artists, cutting-edge illusionists and talented performers. In front of a studio audience, these modern magicians demonstrate their perplexing and astonishing skills with performances that include interactive magic tricks, astounding escapes, sleight-of-hand, large-scale illusions and boisterous comedy routines. The team of executive producers includes David McKenzie, Al Schwartz, Gay Blackstone and David Martin.
Penn and Teller are not only world-famous comedians and magicians, they're also die-hard skeptics. Each episode takes topics such as abstinence, life coaching, cryptozoology, 12-step programs and psychics and uses principles of magic and trickery - as well as good ol' fashioned hidden camera sting operations - to smoke out "nonsense peddlers" and reveal how they operate.
Michael Carbonaro is a multifaceted entertainer. He's an actor who has had recurring roles in various TV series, and he has also performed in his own comedy and magic show at clubs in New York and Los Angeles. He puts all of those talents to use -- and throws in a unique improvisation skill -- in "The Carbonaro Effect," an unscripted series in which he deceives, amazes and amuses an unsuspecting public. In each half-hour episode, Carbonaro performs baffling tricks on people in everyday situations, all caught on hidden camera. Whether the marks are alone or with friends, everyone is left stunned and delighted, even though they have no idea what they just experienced.
