Formerly a block of several hours of news coverage airing daily, including weekends, "MSNBC Live" is now the title of an hourlong show providing breaking news coverage weekday mornings. Journalist Thomas Roberts anchors the show that includes analysis and interviews surrounding the news of the day. "MSNBC Live" also includes feature stories and in-depth special reports from contributing anchors and correspondents as well as weather forecasts from MSNBC's sister network, The Weather Channel.
As part of its commitment to providing breaking news coverage throughout its daytime schedule, MSNBC has a block of "MSNBC Live" programming throughout the day, with different anchors splitting up the hours. Ali Velshi hosts this block. As is the case with other shows under the "MSNBC Live" banner, Velshi details the day's top news and political developments in Washington and across America.
As part of its attempted reinvention, MSNBC has been moving away from airing opinion-based shows during the day, replacing them with blocks of news programming to boost the network's breaking news coverage. Kate Snow, who has years of experience as a journalist for national networks, anchors this portion of the afternoon block. "MSNBC Live" details the day's developments in news and politics to keep viewers aware of the latest happenings.
"NBC News for Universal Kids" is a newscast intended to engage 6- to 11-year-olds in current events so that they can become media-literate, discerning viewers of the future. Stories offer context and information about government, society, and culture, giving young viewers the opportunity to start their own conversations about what's happening in their world. Whether it's a gymnast competing with a prosthetic leg, a geometry student applying math to construct houses, or a group of students helping the elderly learn technology, the stories are intended to inspire hope by featuring young people making a difference.
In the past, MSNBC has filled its daytime schedule with opinion-based discussion shows. The news network has transitioned into providing breaking news coverage during the day. This news block is anchored by Tamron Hall, a veteran of the network. As with the other "MSNBC Live" programming blocks throughout the day, the Hall-anchored program explores the day's developments in news and politics so the network's viewers continue to be informed with the latest happenings.
Journalist Reena Ninan -- who had also served as a news anchor of "World News Now" and "America This Morning" -- anchors the Saturday edition of the CBS news program, while Elaine Quijano -- whose history reporting for CBS News goes back to 2010 -- takes the helm of the Sunday broadcast. The program offers information on breaking national and international news as well as various news features and human interest segments.
