"The Jump" is a daily NBA show hosted by Rachel Nichols. The fast-paced program originates from Los Angeles- across the street from where the Lakers and Clippers play- and features appearances by current and former players, as well as a rotating cast of ESPN analysts, reporters and insiders who provide commentary. "The Jump" is like having a fun NBA conversation with your friends in your living room, except your friends are Scottie Pippen and Tracy McGrady. One of NBA TV's signature studio shows, "Open Court" opens the lines of communication regarding all aspects -- past and present -- of the National Basketball Association. Ernie Johnson acts as both host and moderator, keeping the peace on a panel that includes TNT and NBA TV analysts and special guests sharing their personal accounts of some of the league's top moments and story lines.
"NBA Countdown" serves as the primer for game telecasts on the ESPN family of networks. It's highlighted by a lively roundtable discussion and debate of the top storylines around the league. Seats at the table are reserved for folks in ESPN's stable of NBA hosts and analysts, with the latter group imparting wisdom based on their many years of playing experience.
They have a new name, but the game they play is still innovative, unconventional, humorous, and now, more accessible. Known as The Basketball Jones when they were running roughshod over the sports blogosphere with creative videos and podcasting, the crew led by J.E. Skeets, Tas Melas and Trey Kerby are now The Starters, and they bring their fan-focused take on the game to NBA TV each weekday. The hourlong show is also supplemented by a blog and podcast, all of it tied together by The Starters' passion for the NBA through fun, lighthearted and entertaining content.
Now that the NBA's biggest stars routinely decline to participate, what used to be a can't-miss All-Star weekend event has turned stale. TNT revamps the dynamic in "The Dunk King," which offers 24 professional dunkers -- all non-NBA players, and none taller than 6 feet 6 inches -- the chance to leap from obscurity to celebrity and win $100,000. The pros, many of whom compete full-time in dunk contests for prizes that can range from $1,000 to $15,000, include brothers Chase and Jordan Kilganon, 5-foot-5-inch Porter Maberry, who won last year's competition, and Guy Dupuy, who sports a 59-inch vertical leap. The limited series airs during TNT's coverage of the Eastern Conference finals.
