Now that the twins have graduated from high school, they're ready to start a new adventure -- in California. Living with their aunt and cousin in a beach house, Liv and Maddie are ready to start the next chapter of their lives, with Liv pursuing her acting and singing career and Maddie attending her dream college on a basketball scholarship. After the twins move to California, the rest of their family -- minus dad -- is also forced to move there when brothers Joey and Parker ruin their Wisconsin home. Maddie keeps busy between basketball, academics and balancing a long-distance relationship with Diggie. Liv is happy that cousin Ruby appears to be following in her footsteps and is cast in a TV series. Joey, suddenly the cool kid in school, finds his calling as a comedian.
