"Columbo" isn't the typical detective whodunit TV show. On most detective shows, viewers don't know who committed the crime until the detective pieces the clues together and figures it out. On this show, however, viewers see the crime unfold at the beginning of most episodes, including who the perpetrator is. The mystery and fun for viewers is trying to spot the clues that will lead Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk) to discover the culprit and watching the tricks he uses to get a confession. Episodes of "Columbo" were movie-length and ran sporadically on multiple networks during its run.

Jim Rockford is an ex-con and private detective. He was falsely convicted of a crime he didn't commit, but that doesn't stop him from using his ex-con buddies to help him solve crimes. Nothing comes easy for Rockford, but he works hard and usually gets shot at or beat up at least once per episode.
The show that ushered in the phrase "jiggle TV" features three beautiful police academy-trained private detectives whose cases always seem to require that they don bikinis, evening gowns or other sexy clothing. The unseen Charlie relays instructions via speakerphone.
Who loves ya, baby? That would be Theo Kojak, the bald, lollipop-sucking New York detective who isn't afraid to bend the rules to bust the bad guys. Cynical but upbeat, Kojak not only has a talent for detecting, he also is blessed with perfect parking karma - he is always able to find a parking space right at the crime scene, even in Manhattan. Now that's power.
