This true-crime series tells stories of murders that have been committed against the backdrop of the rugged Alaskan wilderness. Though picturesque, the setting of the 49th state is unforgiving as are the murderers featured on the show. Each episode goes into detail about the sadistic acts of a killer, painting a psychological picture of what goes through the perpetrator's mind when committing the evil act against the victim. The crimes take place all over the state, from cities like Anchorage to a remote mountain hideaway in Manley Hot Springs.

Some of the world's most notorious murders are the subject of "It Takes a Killer," which investigates the crimes from the perspective of the killers, trying to get inside their minds and determine their motives. Leading homicide investigators and experts from such agencies as the FBI and Scotland Yard take a look at the evidence pulled from crime scenes and profile the killer's behavior to try to piece together the details of each murder, explaining when, why and how each criminal committed the crime. For the wannabe detectives watching the show, the experts also reveal how the crime was solved -- which often requires authorities to think like a killer.
Raw, unbridled and chilling depictions of human desires surface in "In Ice Cold Blood." True crime is depicted at another level as Ice-T takes viewers straight into the stories. Money, sex, lust, and greed run rampant with very real consequences. Family members, friends and detectives recount each case -- a missing military veteran, a student murdered in a crime of passion, and secret payouts are only some of the cases. These stories are told through re-enactments, in-depth interviews and archived footage.
Each episode of this true-crime reality series examines a different felon, usually a female, who has committed murder or attempted murder. The victim is usually the perpetrator's partner. The documentary-style series features interviews with friends and family members of the accused and victims, law-enforcement officials, attorneys and other people with first-hand knowledge of the cases.

It's rare when a law enforcement case turns out to be routine. More likely, the crime scene represents just the tip of the iceberg. "Dungeon of Dread" -- the premiere episode of "Pandora's Box: Unleashing Evil" -- details how a shoplifting case jump-starts an investigation into two of California's deadliest, most depraved serial killers, exposing a twisted tale of terror and evil unlike anything investigators have ever encountered. It's just one of many actual cases uncovered in the hourlong series, all of which get more sordid as every piece of evidence is examined.

"Betrayed" reveals chilling stories of chasing the American dream and how the veneer can dramatically crumble, ending in murder at the hands of a trusted family member, co-worker, lover, or friend. The cases of deception are told through the lens of the fictionalized, first-person perspectives of the victims. As investigators, family, and friends peel back the layers and facts of each case, the otherworldly narrator already knows where the trail ends. The narrator guides viewers through various relationships, raising suspicions about who will commit the ultimate betrayal.

This two-part true-crime documentary takes viewers back in time, dusting off case files from nearly 40 years ago. It follows two women, detective Jackie Nichols and Gloria Bobertz, as they work to unravel mysterious disappearances that tormented the small Lewis Clark Valley area along the Washington and Idaho border in the 1980s. Five youngsters vanished, and to this day only three bodies have been found. The other disappearances remained unsolved. While local police worked for years to find the culprit, the cases were shelved due to minimal evidence and leads. Now Nichols and Bobertz, the cousin of one of the victims, track down old witnesses and pursue new leads. The most chilling part of these cases? Investigators are certain who the killer is, but no one has been able to gather enough evidence to confidently prosecute him.
Most true-crime shows let viewers know the identity of the victim right away, before working their way into revealing the identity of the perpetrator. That's not how things work on "Killision Course," which conceals all of the participants' roles until the episode's final act. While working toward the conclusion, each hourlong episode re-creates a murder case involving a victim, accomplice and killer. Stories often involve friends or lovers who commit crimes against people who once trusted them. It's all part of the road leading up to the big reveal, which is when viewers learn what role each party played in the fatal act.
