Across America there are small towns with tree-lined streets and historic homes surrounded by white picket fences that exude charm and tranquility. Travel Channel's paranormal series "Hometown Horror" explores the dark secrets lurking in the shadows of these sunny bucolic communities, many of which are haunted by centuries-old tragedies, such as bloody battles and deadly train derailments. The series delve into the origins of ghost stories spawned by long-ago murders, homegrown monsters and small-town mayhem, stories that leave lasting stains as well as lingering fears. One episode explores the legend of a deranged butcher known as the Pigman in Angola, N.Y., while another episode shares tales of undead soldiers haunting the site of Kentucky's deadliest Civil War battle. The series shares eyewitness accounts and digs into historical records to find the sources of these stories about ghosts, ghouls and the things that go bump in the night.

Morgan City, La., is experiencing a disconcerting spike in emergency calls related to encounters with ghosts from the bayou city's turbulent past. Police Chief James Blair calls upon a team of paranormal experts to investigate the city's rise in bizarre activity. The team is led by Lousiana native Jereme Leonard, former FBI agent Ben Hansen and psychic medium Sarah Lemos. With the help of local historian Diane Wiltz, the team digs into the area's haunted history and begins the crossing-over process for some of the spirits wreaking havoc on the small community. Learning that the hauntings have spread throughout the area, the team begins working with other police departments to get to the bottom of the ghostly infestation of St. Mary Parish.

In Travel Channel's "Destination Fear," documentary filmmaker Dakota Laden, his sister, Chelsea, and his best friend, Tanner Wiseman, travel across the country in an RV to spend nights in haunted locations. From asylums to prisons, they explore abandoned buildings using scientific equipment to capture evidence of paranormal activity. At each site, the luck of the draw determines where each one of them will sleep -- alone and separate from each other -- armed with cameras and dread as their only companions. Episodes include a visit to Brushy State Penitentiary, which is rumored to be rife with paranormal activity. At Old South Pittsburg Hospital, Dakota prepares sister Chelsea to confront a specter that attacks only women. In West Virginia, the team visits Sweet Springs Sanitarium, the site of a massacre of Native Americans, where they hear screams, voices and chants. They also revisit St. Albans Sanatorium, even though Chelsea has vowed she would never return to this awful place.

Restless spirits stalk the halls of a medieval castle, the undead work the graveyard shift at a subterranean factory and a skeleton crew mans the deck of a cursed ship. Other spooky places include an abandoned amusement park, a grain silo, an opera house turned makeshift morgue, and a train car. Each episode features hair-raising firsthand accounts, spine-chilling reenactments and eye-opening interviews with local people and historians.

He documents his haunting on social media under the hashtag #DearDavid, and the ghost story goes viral, as millions of people follow Ellis' frightening experiences, yearning for answers about the little boy with an indentation on his head. In Travel Channel's series, "Trending Fear," Ellis teams up with researcher Jen Lewis and ghost hunter Paul Bradford to help other people take back their lives after nightmarish encounters with the paranormal. Not only will the group use traditional methods, it will also use social media to crowdsource the stories, theories and evidence surrounding each case.
