For the lowlifes profiled in this series, their stories may be different, but the motive is always the same -- to live life on the lam. They evaded justice for years, sometimes decades, by using all means necessary, until law enforcement finally caught up to them. Along with a re-enactment of the story, each episode features a prison interview with the one-time fugitive, who tells of his adventures while on the run, how he survived and stayed one step ahead of the law ... and how he almost got away with it.

As an executive producer on "The Shield" and the creator of "Sons of Anarchy," Kurt Sutter has spent a good part of his adulthood writing about fictitious anti-heroes, the kind of guys he became fascinated with while relentlessly watching TV as a kid. "We all love the guys in black," he says. Spearheaded by Sutter's insight, "Outlaw Empires" presents stories of real American outlaws -- gangs and families who have ruled the streets with a heavy hand and without sympathy. Each hourlong episode tells the complete history of a notorious crime ring, from the Crips in Los Angeles to biker gangs to the Italian Mafia and the Aryan Brotherhood, replete with commentary from members who lived the outlaw life.

While other true crime dramas follow a murder investigation to the ultimate end of revealing who committed the crime, this series leaves the conviction to the viewers. The stories are told by the deceased victims using fictional dialogue and a narrator who knows everything, including who is responsible, but doesn't come out and say it. Instead, as the mystery unfolds, the viewer is left to pick out the clues given throughout the show by friends, family members, and law enforcement officials and come to the conclusion on their own.

America is full of archaeological secrets buried in the earth. In this series, forensic geologist Scott Wolter -- considered a real-life Indiana Jones by some -- travels across the country to uncover some of the hidden treasures and to reveal the history associated with them, discovering in the process that there is a lot Americans don't know about the country's past, and the history that people do know may not always tell the whole story. Ancient symbols, religious relics and other artifacts that Wolter unearths indicate that various civilizations have left their mark on the nation.
