Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless, have graduated from experienced riders to confident defenders along with the rest of their group. Now they face a surprising enemy, rare dragons and exciting adventures in their defense of the Viking island of Berk. The kids develop their new dragon knowledge and flying skills and form a secret Dragons Fight Club in order to battle familiar foes and an unforeseen villain that emerges. Through it all, the group learns the important lesson of not taking one's dragon for granted.

King Julien XII is a cowardly ring-tailed lemur who forces his kingdom into silence to avoid being attack by the foosa. However, Masikura foretells that King Julien XII will be eaten by the foosa and so he hands down his kingship to his nephew, King Julien XIII. The new king turns out to be a notorious party animal and very selfish, events lead to the new King Julien getting into trouble with his adviser, Maurice, head of security Clover, and Mort.
