Together, these four communities serve as a tapestry of the ordeal Americans went through during the four years of the war, as witnesses share their own vivid and often harrowing accounts of how the war dramatically altered their own lives as well as those of their friends and neighbors.

This historical drama explores the fight for an independent Texas that occurred following the conclusion of the Battle of the Alamo. Gen. Sam Houston leads a ragtag group of Texas Rangers into battle against Mexican Gen. Santa Anna. Houston and the Rangers fight seemingly insurmountable odds to overtake the opponent and gain independence. The series comes from the same team behind Emmy-winning miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys" and, like that program, features Emmy nominee Bill Paxton, who plays Houston, in a prominent role.
