In the Amish settlement in Lancaster County, Pa., keeping the peace and carrying out justice is the responsibility of Lebanon Levi. He doesn't hold the title of police chief, yet he holds all the power of one, if not more. Levi exists above the law and occupies the role of police, judge and jury in a community that, untrusting of traditional law enforcement authorities, relies on a group of men for protection and justice. "Amish Mafia" depicts the work carried out by Levi and three of his assistants, namely keeping outside forces from infiltrating the Amish community, while keeping the principles and morality within the community in check. The Amish church, according to Discovery, denies the existence of this unique "police" force, so the network says some identifying information in the series has been changed, and some scenes are re-enacted.

The reality series "Breaking Amish" provides a unique look into the lives of young men and women who break free from their Amish or Mennonite traditions to pursue dreams of an "English" life in New York City and Brooklyn, N.Y. They get to wear jeans, use electricity, and spend time in places that serve alcohol -- all first-time experiences for them -- but taking advantage of Western luxuries has its disadvantages. The cast members likely will be abandoned by their families if they commit to living full-time on the outside, and even if they return to their previous lifestyles, they risk being shunned by their community altogether. The choice is theirs, and they know it comes with potential lifelong consequences.

It stands to reason that TLC wants to "return to Amish." The network got considerable traction by documenting Amish and Mennonite lifestyles and how they contrast with others today, beginning in 2012 with "Breaking Amish," its highest-rated freshman series. The profiled young men and women experienced unfamiliar cities, including New York, and now they have returned to their roots. The spinoff "Return to Amish" features some of those people -- Abe, Jeremiah, Rebecca and Sabrina -- back in Pennsylvania, where they become reacquainted with traditions while having life-changing experiences like marriage and pregnancy. Cameras also follow Kate, who chose to remain in New York to focus on a budding modeling career.
Life-changing decisions are not easy, especially when consequences mean one's disassociation from one's culture. The 10-episode documentary "Amish: Out of Order" follows those who have chosen to leave their familiar life for more freedom and opportunity -- despite the decision to live among "the English" preventing them from further contact with the community. The series spotlights Mose Gingerich and his efforts to help former followers of the faith. At 22, Gingerich himself left and moved to Columbia, Mo., where his new life centers on welcoming and guiding others who share his experience.

In the reality series, Stearns will reveal his true identity at the end of the 90 days, and a financial evaluator will asses the value of his new company to see whether it hits the mark. Investigation Discovery's true-crime series "Murder in Amish Country" uncovers some of the most heinous crimes committed in closed communities whose members are known for their piety, principles and distrust of the outside world. Episodes feature the cases of Edward Gingerich, who was the first Old Order Amish man to be convicted of homicide, and serial killer Eli Stutzman, who was the son of an Amish bishop. These cases reveal that solving murders inside the Amish community is unlike solving other criminal cases and that what happens in the dark eventually comes to light.

Tanana, Alaska, is like the Pacific Northwest's version of Hotel California: You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. Well, not exactly, but describing the town as remote is akin to saying the winters are chilly. Located at the junction of the Tanana and Yukon rivers deep in the state's interior, the town has no roads in or out, and for its 200-plus residents, survival in the winter is a daily challenge. "Yukon Men" unveils the people of Tanana, who struggle to find food, heat their homes, and ward off predators. But they stick together, a bond that helps them overcome the harsh conditions.

Tradition collides with transformation in McCarthy, Alaska. The isolated town -- once considered to be the state's version of "Sin City" -- flourished during the Gold Rush but is now home to roughly 40 people, a mix of mavericks, risk takers and rabble rousers willing to brave extreme conditions to live free. While some believe in continuing the town's frontier way of life, others feel the future of McCarthy depends on dragging it into the modern age. Long-standing resident Jeremy Keller fights to protect its roots, while Neil Darish has purchased multiple properties in town and plans to restore its vibrancy. "Edge of Alaska" tells the story of a hinterland at a crossroads.
