A competition series explores the work of special-effects makeup artists.
Aspiring artists compete to bring their wildest beast to life.
Joe Maddalena owns Profiles in History, the world's largest auctioneer of movie, television and pop culture artifacts. To find the very best items, Joe and his crew scour the globe, hunting for the original car from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" or the hat of the Wicked Witch of the West or some other memorable prop. There's plenty of variety in the work -- one day Joe is in a dusty basement poring over old boxes, the next he's browsing the well-kept personal mementoes of one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
People often think that ghosts and other spirits live in and "haunt" buildings. But people don't usually think the same thing about objects like paintings, jewelry and dolls. But the Zaffis family, led by dad John, not only thinks that ghosts can inhabit such objects, they collect what they think are paranormal objects. John Zaffis is a paranormal investigator who has been asked to consult on hauntings for nearly four decades. Through the years, he has amassed thousands of possessed objects that he keeps in his bizarre museum, where visitors report feeling an evil presence upon entering the building. Assisting John on his investigations are his children, Chris and Aimee. Also along for the (potentially scary) ride are tech specialist Brian Cano, who has been fascinated by the paranormal since he was young, and an additional psychic investigator or two.
Cosplay -- the practice of dressing up as characters from movies, books or video games -- is a popular activity in the sci-fi community. People transform themselves into pop culture-inspired creations, often with an emphasis on anime characters. Usually, it's just for fun and playful contests, but on "Cosplay Melee," the perfect costume can be worth $10,000 to a cosplayer. Each episode sees four contestants creating full costumes and character origin stories, then hitting the runway in an attempt to impress the judges, who are world-class cosplayer LeeAnna Vamp and costume creator Christian Beckman, by looking -- and acting -- the part. Whoever the judges feel most embodies the character is proclaimed the winner and earns the grand prize. Actress Yvette Nicole Brown ("Community") hosts the show that Syfy says compares to reality show "Face Off" but "with a triple dose of adrenaline."
This show offers a slightly different twist on the usual paranormal investigation -- team members, led by former FBI agent Ben Hansen, investigate photos or videos posted on the Internet, looking for signs of fakery. In fact, the show's website has a link where viewers can submit their own evidence to the team. Members conduct various experiments, trying to reproduce the phenomena, and if they can't, Ben reviews the evidence to decide whether it warrants a field investigation. Once in the field, they use the most up-to-date techniques for gathering evidence of the paranormal, either to debunk the evidence, or confirm it as a paranormal mystery.
Jack Osbourne and his friend, actress Dana Workman, hit the haunted highway on a most unusual road trip. The pair investigate claims of paranormal activity along America's remote roads, traveling without a camera crew and documenting their creepy findings themselves. The series also highlights similar work done separately by Jael de Pardo and Devin Marble (familiar names to fans of the Syfy series "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files"). The teams, aided by eyewitness interviews and evidence already collected, travel mysterious regions of Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Arkansas and Louisiana in search of hellhounds, skin walkers, ghosts and other paranormal phenomena.
Seven strangers must try to overcome their deepest fears as they search for large quantities of cash hidden throughout a creepy and trap-rigged mansion. Steve Valentine ("Crossing Jordan") hosts.
