Launched in 1977, "This Week in Baseball" -- or "TWIB," as it's often referred -- is the longest-running sports anthology show in TV history, made famous by the legendary voice of original host Mel Allen. Today, "TWIB" still resonates with fans because its simple formula remains true -- a bunch of baseball highlights packed into each half-hour episode, plus classic segments such as "TWIB Notes," which details fun facts and happenings around baseball, and the week's great plays in "How 'bout That," a tribute to Allen's trademark phrase.

Four years in the making, Ken Burns' Emmy-winning documentary traces the history of America's great game, beginning with its origins in the 1840s and concluding with a summary of the years covering about 1970 to 1993. It totals nine episodes, or innings, and more than 18 hours, brought to life by contemporaneous photos, paintings, lithographs and newsreels, and the voices of actors and writers reciting over pictures and video the first-person accounts of many of baseball's legendary characters.
